MK knows...

Pete!

As a proud mother and OSU alum, I am happy to announce that Mary Katherine now labels all OSU logos as "Pete"!

The New Evidence that Demands...

Roger says he's really enjoying his new book. Looks like to me it's the Evidence that Demands...Sleeping?
Poor Roger! I'm always picking on him and most of the time he doesn't even know it.

Grandpa With His Eye Out

Last weekend we had the funeral for my Grandpa Billy. When I was younger sometimes we referred to him as "Grandpa with his eye out" (An earlier accident had caused him to lose one of his eyes) I loved my grandpa dearly, but was glad that he was finally able to go to his heavenly home. He can be with his wife of 68 years and no longer have the daily struggle of alzheimer's. A disease that takes your mind, but not your body is horrible. For most of his 90 years here on earth, grandpa was blessed. He was able to do what he loved--ranching! It was only fitting that they chose to have one of his horses saddled outside of the church, because outside of personal relationships there was nothing I believe he loved more. This is his horse (well part of it) at the funeral.

Mary Katherine-isms

Taking after my sister's blog and her "kidisms" I am proud to post my first MKisms!Yay!
1)I've seen different ways that MK takes after me and Roger. If you know me, you know that I like to stay busy and get bored easily staying in the house all day. It was about mid-morning and MK had stopped playing. She pointed at the door, looked at me, and said, "go,go" in a question tone. I asked her if she wanted to go somewhere and she said "mamaw". I decided that was a good idea. Let's go to Grandma's!
2)MK is getting smarter and starting to realize that dad may seem to give in a little faster. One night she was awake in her crib (as she frequently is) and was calling (crying) for mama. She stopped for a moment and then in that same question voice said "dada". Nice try, MK.
3)I bought Mary Katherine a tea set last week and she has been LOVING it! I've been trying to teach her to "pour" the tea from the pot into the cup. I thought she was catching on until I walked in to her shaking the saucer over the cup making the same pouring noise.
4)Much to my dislike, Mary Katherine enjoys the word "no". Most of the time she does use it in context, but occassionally I'm not sure. One day I walked into the living room to see her with her head down, shaking her head very discouraged, saying "no,no,no" over and over to herself. Not sure what she was so disappointed about.
5)Today we were watching a show and it said to make a funny face. The kids on the show had their fingers in their mouths and sticking out their tongues. I look at MK, and she was attempting this face. Wish I could have had a picture. She couldn't quite figure out how to get your fingers in your mouth and your tongue out at the same time.
6)I was so proud of MK last week when she was using the word "pretty" correctly. She looked at my necklace and said, "pi-ey". Another day she was combing her hair in the mirror and said it again. Then yesterday she grabbed her snotty tissue, looked at me, and said--"pi-ey". No child, that is not pretty!
7)Mary Katherine Loves her baby dolls. She showers them with kisses, hugs, pats their backs when she holds them, and then tucks them in with a "nite-nite". She's a sweet mother!
8)We love to go to the park and to Grandma's. Usually she is kicking her feet with excitement when we turn the corner to either of these places. This morning we pull into Grandma's house and Mary Katherine very matter-of-factly said, "no...no".
9)When daddy gets home from work, MK is very happy to see him. Lately, each night involves some nascar racing around the downstairs in her new cosey coupe. Roger's huffing, puffing, and sweating behind the car pushing it, while MK is relaxed to the max in the car, holding her bebe (blanket), and sucking her thumb. Quite comical to watch.
10)MK enjoys pointing out objects she knows the name of--sometimes correct, sometimes not. So lately, every errand and road trip goes like this--"ca...ca...ca...ca...ca...ca..." Even in a town the size of Laverne, you'd be surprised how many "cas" (cars) you pass (driving or parked).

If you're still reading at this point, thanks for letting me share my highlights of the past week or so. Wow! That was fun and no pictures were even involved. Don't worry I'll get back to my "mainly pictures, little text posts" soon I'm sure.

On another note, yesterday I very absent-mindedly deleted all of my blog list. This was very frustrating. So I had to go around to everyone elses' blogs looking for addresses and whose I might be missing. I think I have them all back on, but if you don't see yours it's probably because I never read it. JUST KIDDING. I'm sure I will soon realize I'm missing it and it will be back on! FYI- I have one or two new ones. Our Newfangled Nest is Jenn Mosburg's new blog. She's a great writer (and family). So since I think most of my readers are family, head on over there and be enlightened.

The "Learn to Walk" Belt

I saw this tutorial http://makeitandloveit.blogspot.com/2009/08/teach-to-walk-belt.html the other day and decided maybe this is the missing piece to success in MK's walking. I cleared off the 'ol sewing table and went back to my natural talent of sewing. (ha,ha) Anyone who knows me well, knows that I'm the type of person that just wants to get a project done, even if it means not paying so much attention to the details. All in all, I didn't think it turned out so bad for doing it all in about the same time that Roger was in the shower. Okay...so maybe I didn't really measure and my seams are not straight lines, but it still fulfills the purpose it was set out to do.

Hopefully when I go to try it out tomorrow it will fit her! :) And no, mom, I didn't press it once.

**Edit**I tried the belt this morning and she really liked it. We walked across the house with it and it was easy on mom's back!

A few balloons and lots of smiles!

I had a fun picture idea using balloons that I wanted to try with MK around Valentine's Day. After her nap, we went by the flower shop, got 9 balloons, and then headed to a place across from the bank where they recently tore down a building. Believe it or not, Laverne is not just oozing with "urban" settings so you take what you can get. I knew MK would love the helium balloons and also quite sure that if I didn't attach the balloons to her they would be gone before any pictures were taken. So before leaving the van, I tied the balloons to her hand and we were ready. The idea worked well for about 3 minutes. Mary Katherine was so excited she somehow worked the ribbons past her wrist and off the hand. Oh well...at least I got a few.

A different weekend...

I spent last weekend with my sisters in Houston. Holly and Brian's baby, Julia, was born two weeks ago so Kizzy and I went down to see the new beauty. Mary Katherine had a great weekend as well. She spent days being spoiled with grandma and evenings with dad. I'd like to think that she missed me, but I'm not sure that was the reality. I don't have any MK pictures of the weekend but here's just a few fun ones I took.

I also took newborn and family pictures for Holly. You can lots of new pictures of baby Julia at http://www.capturingyourlife.blogspot.com/

The best lunches...

The best lunches in our house are the ones when dad gets to come home.
They involve talking on his phone,...
partaking in his chips (straight from the bag),...
and who's that I see out of focus...
oh yes...sharing in the carrot cake goodness!

Who wouldn't enjoy lunch with dad?
It's too bad mom started her diet this week!

A couple announcements...

I don't have any pictures or stories of MK to share, but have some exciting news!

My sister, Holly, had her first child--Julia Grace last week. My other sister and I get to go down in a little over a week to visit and love on the new baby. I'm also going to be sure to get lots of pictures to share. Julia was born New Year's Eve weighing in at 5 lbs. 7 oz. and a head full of black hair. She came home from the hospital yesterday.

On a completely different note, I've been working on ways to make my photography a little more profitable--well, let's just say I'd like to make more than I spend on it all. I've found some really cool graduation templates and have some other ideas that I posted on my other blog (capturingyourlife.blogspot.com). If you have the time, please go over and check them out and let me know what you think. Also, if you have any other ideas...I'm open.
